The windows registry is the essence of the computer, perpetually modifying and developing in size. Pretty much every time that you change anything on your computer, such as when installing / deleting programs and modifying system settings, the registry changes and updates too.

Due to the size of the task that it does, and the amount of changes and updates that it has to handle, the windows registry will, over time, become out of sync with the current settings on your computer. It will look for outdated files that no longer exist and it will have stored up redundant settings that are no longer applicable. When this happens, the overall performance of your computer is negatively affected.

Should this happen to your computer, you need to learn how to fix registry errors. This is necessary because the longer you leave registry errors to accumulate, the more frequent software errors will occur, and the more problematic they will be. As well as standard software errors, which range from slightly annoying to very frustrating, you also run the risk of serious problems occurring, such as the dreaded blue screen of death.

Keep in mind that the registry is constantly under the warning of possibly serious records permitted in the registry which has been abandoned due to deleted programs and utilities. All corrupted registry data can seriously harm the registry and, as a result, slow down the performance of even the newest computer.

There are too many problems that occur from registry errors to list in full here, but the most common ones to look out for include:

- Applications taking noticeably longer that usual to load

- The dreaded blue screen

- The computer regularly freezing up and crashing

- The popping up of error messages that are unrelated to the application that you are using

If you are having the above mentioned problems, then you probably have a serious problem in the computer registry and it needs to be fixed as quickly as possible before the system collapses, if it hasn't done so already.

So, how to fix registry errors? Well, it is something that you can do yourself. By doing it yourself you don't have to spend any money, so this is the most cost effective method. However, doing it yourself is very time intensive and requires you to be fairly knowledgeable about windows and its registry system. In fact, even those with past knowledge and experience make mistakes with it and can't normally fix registry errors in a short space of time.

If you decide that you want to take the manual appriach to fixing registry errors, then the way to get started is to select "Run" from the start menu. Then enter "Regedit". It is advisable to not just jump in and start making changes though. You should check out some guides and forums to learn what you should do. By unintentionally creating further errors in the registry, you may end up putting your computer beyond repair; well, without re-installing windows anyway..

You can also fix registry problems automatically by using one of the top registry repair programs. They are really simple to use. If you can operate a mouse, then you can certainly run a scan and repair the computer back to its maximum performance.
